Safe Medication Disposal

A critical part of preventing prescription drug misuse is disposing of unused and/or expired prescription medication. Properly disposing of medication prevents theft, illegal use, accidental ingestion, overdose and death.

Ongoing drop-off locations in Columbus for medication disposal include:

  • Walgreens, 2400 Beam Road, Columbus. A safe medication disposal kiosk is located next to the pharmacy inside the store. Accepts expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs and controlled substances. No syringes, liquids or inhalers accepted. The kiosk is accessible during store operating hours, typically 24/7.
  • Indiana State Police and other police agencies sponsor drug take-back collection events several times throughout the year that are posted on social media and through public service announcements.
