Columbus, IN – The Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress in Bartholomew County is pleased to announce that the SMART Recovery Program will be coming to Bartholomew County, beginning on November 1st and 2nd. SMART Recovery is made possible by a grant from the Columbus Rotary Club.
SMART Recovery is 4-Point Program that helps people recover from all types of addictive behaviors, including: opioid addiction, methamphetamine addiction, cocaine addiction, drug abuse, substance abuse, and addiction to other substances and behaviors. Their program includes many ideas and techniques to help someone change their life from one that is self-destructive and unhappy to one that is constructive and satisfying.
Bob Morrison, Grant Administrator for The Columbus Rotary Club said, “The Columbus Rotary Club and Rotary District 6580 are pleased to be able to help in this project focused on the Recovery Aspect of the important work the ASAP Recovery Programs Team is focused on.”
Founded in 1994, SMART Recovery has grown steadily since its inception, and now offers more than 2,000 local meetings, and is available in many countries around the world. SMART Recovery is an abstinence-based, not-for-profit organization with a sensible self-help program for people having problems with drinking and using.
“We see the addition of SMART Recovery as an excellent program to work concurrently with existing local step groups and outpatient treatment options” said Scott Hundley, ASAP Recovery Programs Team Leader. “One of the goals of the Recovery Programs team of ASAP is to increase the number and diversity of recovery support meetings in Bartholomew County. SMART Recovery supports individuals with any addiction and uses a variety of tools to address motivation, maintaining urges, balance and thought management. We have assembled a team with a plan to have SMART Recovery meetings launching this December.”
The training program will be held at Hotel Indigo, training 25 program facilitators to work as volunteers in Columbus and Bartholomew County. The program is sustained by those trained facilitators who will be supplied with the information and materials to deliver this program to those in need and to train other volunteers. After training, SMART Recovery facilitators will be able to start and lead more recovery meetings in our community.
SMART Recovery will be coordinated by the Recovery Programs team of the Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress in Bartholomew County.
