The City of Columbus offers a vanpool program for people seeking transportation to work. The Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority (CIRTA), which manages vanpools in the Indianapolis area, is the provider of these services. Fuel costs are paid by the riders.
A vanpool consists of 5-15 people commuting from similar origins to similar destinations each workday. CIRTA staff members are in contact with employers and employees, and organize vanpools when there are a sufficient number of riders. Employees are eligible to participate in the program if they live in Columbus and work in Columbus or Bartholomew County; or if they live in any Indiana County and work in Columbus.
